Your Network Is Not Optional Anymore
By Tonya Petrozzi, EOS Implementer, Business Coach, and Consultant, Petrozzi Coaching & Consulting
For a long time, networking had a reputation problem.
It felt transactional. Awkward. Forced. Like something you were supposed to do at conferences while balancing a drink and scanning name badges.
But the reality is this: your network is not about collecting contacts.
It is about building your personal and professional infrastructure.
In the technology channel, relationships are the ecosystem. Opportunities move through conversations. Ideas spread through trust. Leadership visibility grows through connection. The people who accelerate the fastest are rarely the most technically talented. They are the most connected.
And connection is something you can intentionally build.
One of the biggest misconceptions I see, especially among high-performing women, is the belief that relationships should happen organically. That if you do great work, people will notice, advocates will appear, and doors will open.
Sometimes that happens.
Often it does not.
Strong networks are built on intentionality and consistency, not coincidence.
That means staying in touch with former colleagues even when you do not need anything. It means reaching out after industry events to continue conversations. It means supporting other women publicly. It means making introductions. It means being generous with knowledge and encouragement.
It also means allowing yourself to be visible.
You do not need a perfect reason to connect with someone. Curiosity is enough. Shared experiences are enough. Admiration is enough.
The channel is one of the most relationship-driven industries in business. That is not a weakness. It is a superpower. And for women, it creates an enormous opportunity when we lean into it intentionally.
If you are early in your career, your network creates exposure.
If you are mid-career, your network creates momentum, breeds opportunity, and closes deals.
Later in your career, your network creates influence and opens doors to exciting new endeavors, while creating space for us to give back and support the next generation of leaders.
At every stage, relationships matter.
One of the most powerful shifts I see in women’s careers happens when they stop viewing networking as self-promotion and start viewing it as community building. Because when women support women, everyone rises faster.
So here is a simple invitation.
Reach out to someone in the channel this week. Reconnect with a former colleague. Send a note to someone whose work you admire. Offer encouragement. Ask a question. Start a conversation.
And if we are not connected yet, I would love to change that. The Women of the Channel community is full of smart, generous, ambitious leaders, and there is real power in knowing each other.
Let’s build stronger networks together.
