The Power of Stillness in a World That Won’t Stop Moving

The wisdom in this blog comes from my younger sister, Marra St. Clair. And while she may be younger than me, she is without a doubt wiser than me in ways that continue to inspire and ground me. Her insights around stress, stillness, and trust have helped me—and many others—reframe how we move through life. If this resonates with you, I highly recommend checking out her work at www.marrastclair.com.

You feel it.

The pressure to keep everything moving.
The belief that if you slow down, you’ll fall behind.
The fear that if you stop, everything might fall apart.

Somewhere along the way, many of us absorbed the idea that motion equals safety. That being busy means we’re doing something rightWe equate stillness with lazinessI have an unscheduled moment, let me put it to use!

But what if that’s not true?

The Myth of Constant Motion

We live in a culture that glorifies hustle. We’re praised for being productive, for pushing through, and for always doing more. But here’s the thing: stress isn’t a badge of honor. It’s not a sign that you’re important or needed. It’s often a sign that you’re carrying something that was never yours to hold.

The truth is, stillness isn’t weakness. It’s wisdom.

It’s the space where clarity lives.
It’s where your nervous system can reset.
It’s where you can finally hear yourself think.

The Real Work: Trust

So much of our stress comes from trying to control things that are beyond our reach. We try to manage outcomes, predict the future, and hold everything together. But what if your only job is to show up fully, do your best, and then let go?

Let go of the outcome.
Let go of the urgency.
Let go of the belief that your worth is tied to your output.

When you learn to trust—yourself, the process, something greater than you—stress begins to dissolve. Not because life gets easier, but because you stop fighting it.

What Stillness Can Teach You

Stillness isn’t about doing nothing. It’s about doing the right thing at the right time. It’s about pausing long enough to discern what actually matters.

Ask yourself:

  • What am I pushing forward that isn’t ready to move?
  • What might I hear if I stopped filling every moment with noise?
  • Can I rest without guilt? Without needing to justify it?

Stillness helps you separate what’s urgent from what’s important. It teaches you to hold tension without reacting to it. And in that pause, something powerful happens - you begin to see clearly.

A New Way Forward

You don’t have to chase everything. You don’t have to prove anything. You don’t have to carry it all.

You’re allowed to pause.
You’re allowed to rest.
You’re allowed to trust that what’s meant for you will find you—even if you’re standing still.

Because sometimes, the most powerful move you can make… is no move at all.
